CAMC's Medical Rehabilitation Center has been ranked among the top 10 percent of all inpatient rehabilitation facilities in the United States for delivering effective, efficient and patient-centered care.
CAMC received the recognition from the Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation (UDSMR), a not-for-profit corporation that administers the world's largest medical rehabilitation database. The rankings, which covered 2010, evaluated 797 inpatient rehab facilities by using a program evaluation model that ranked numerous factors, including length of stay, acuity, functional independence and others.
"Quality care doesn't happen by chance. This national recognition reflects the commitment and dedication that our rehabilitation team gives each patient every day," said Mike Williams, vice president/administrator of CAMC General Hospital.
UDSMR's program evaluation model report card identifies and recognizes facilities that perform at a high level, works with them to learn how they achieve high performance, and shares those results with other facilities to elevate the performance of rehab facilities nationwide.
"Our exceptional clinical outcomes are a testament to the competence and dedication of our staff," said Pete Americo, corporate director for CAMC Rehabilitation Services. "We are very proud of our program, our medical director, and the excellent group of specially certified physicians, nurses, therapists, social workers and psychologists who are making an enormous difference in the lives of our patients."
As one of only two hospital-based rehabilitation centers in West Virginia and the largest hospital-based rehab program in the state, CAMC offers the only medical rehabilitation program with physiatrists who have completed specialized training and have sub-specialty certification in spinal cord rehabilitation. The 40-bed facility is staffed by physiatrists, nurses and therapists - all of whom have taken a national examination to become credentialed in use of the Functional Independence Measure (FIM), which is the industry standard for patient assessment. Plus, the center offers CARF Accredited Programs (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) in stroke, brain injury, spinal cord rehabilitation and comprehensive rehabilitation. The goal for each patient is to reach the highest level of personal independence and return to their normal activities as soon as possible.
