Physician Bios

 

Bruce B. Horswell, MD, DDS, MS, FACS 125x166

Bruce B. Horswell, MD, DDS, MS, FACS , is the Medical Director of FACES (First Appalachian Craniofacial Deformity Specialists) at the CAMC Physicians Group Facial Surgery practice. He is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Dr. Horswell is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association. He obtained his medical degree and surgical training from the University of Connecticut in Farmington, Connecticut, and his dental degree and oral maxillofacial training from the University of Minnesota. He completed two craniofacial fellowships at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, and the Royal Children's Hospital in Liverpool, England. He was on the faculty at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore and also has been in private practice in his home state of Minnesota. Dr. Horswell is a well-known national and international speaker.  

FACES is affiliated with Charleston Area Medical Center’s Women and Children's Hospital. The practice specializes in the comprehensive management of congenital and acquired cranio/maxillofacial deformities and related problems. The program’s multidisciplinary team includes craniomaxillofacial surgery, neurosurgery, otorhinolaryngology, pediatric genetics, audiology, speech therapy, orthodontic/pediatric dentistry, nursing and social work for children with treatment of facial deformities such as cleft lip and palate, cranial suture fusion (misshapen head), growth problems of the facial region, crooked and misaligned jaws, eye and ear anomalies or asymmetries, birth marks or vascular lesions, and speech and swallow evaluation is offered. FACES serves as a resource for primary care providers in regard to these problems.
 

Michael S. Jaskolka, MD, DDS 125x166

Michael S. Jaskolka, MD, DDS , joined the CAMC Physicians Group Facial Surgery practice after completing a subspecialty fellowship in pediatric cleft and craniofacial surgery at the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, FL. He is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Originally from Toronto, Canada, Dr. Jaskolka graduated from dental school at the University of Western Ontario and then went on to complete a general practice residency at the University of British Columbia. He was then accepted at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill where he completed medical school, general surgery internship and residency training in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Dr. Jaskolka maintains his association with UNC Chapel Hill as an adjunct instructor.

Dr. Jaskolka has presented several abstracts and published a number of papers in the field of craniomaxillofacial surgery. He is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association, the American College of Surgeons, and a number of local, regional and national medical and dental associations.

In addition to his experiences and training in the United States, Dr. Jaskolka has traveled to England to spend time in a number of maxillofacial units around London. He also maintains an interest in helping the underprivileged. Dr. Jaskolka has traveled to Mexico to treat children with cleft and craniofacial deformities and has assisted with Operation Changing Lives in Florida.

Dr. Jaskolka's special interests include the treatment of children with cleft and craniofacial conditions, corrective jaw (orthognathic) surgery, facial trauma and reconstruction, and computer aided surgical treatment planning and guidance.
