About Me
Catherine Ham, MD, is the Director of the CAMC Headache Center and is board certified in both neurology and headache medicine. She is a Fellow of the American Headache Society and serves as the West Virginia representative to the Southern Headache Society.
At the CAMC Headache Center, Dr. Ham leads a multidisciplinary approach to diagnosing and managing headache and related pain disorders, including migraines, cluster headaches, trigeminal neuralgia, tension headaches, occipital neuralgia, and post-traumatic headaches. Her individualized treatment plans may include medications, Botox for chronic migraine, and various nerve blocks. When appropriate, she collaborates with physical therapists, interventional pain specialists, pain psychologists, and other experts to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care.
A passionate educator and advocate, Dr. Ham is known for her work in teaching headache pathophysiology and treatment strategies, as well as raising awareness about the impact of headache disorders. She plays an active role in resident education at CAMC, emphasizing that headache is the most common reason patients seek neurological care. Her efforts help underscore the message that migraine is not "just a bad headache" but a complex neurologic disease.
Dr. Ham is also spearheading the development of a Headache Fellowship program at CAMC, set to launch in 2026.
Before joining Vandalia Health CAMC in 2024, Dr. Ham was Director of the Virginia Commonwealth University Headache Clinic in Richmond, VA. She was also the Assistant Professor of Neurology at VCU for 12 years, where she was very involved in academic training and patient advocacy.
