Charleston Area Medical Center continues to bring the most advanced medical technology to southern West Virginia. As a leader in robotic surgery, CAMC was one of the first hospitals in the region to use the new Da Vinci 5 robotic system. Now, CAMC is among the first in the country to upgrade all its Da Vinci systems to the latest technology.

CAMC Memorial Hospital now has four Da Vinci 5 robotic surgery systems and one Da Vinci SP system, which has been updated to use the latest technology.

The newest Da Vinci 5 system includes over 150 design upgrades and 10,000 times more computing power than the previous version. Key improvements include:

"Force Feedback" technology – Allows surgeons to feel pressure and resistance while operating, giving them better control.

Enhanced vision – Provides clearer, more accurate colors and a sharper 3D view of the surgical area.

Better comfort for surgeons – Adjustable settings help surgeons work in a more natural and comfortable position.

“The Da Vinci 5 robotic surgery system allows for greater precision, enhanced visualization and improved patient outcomes,” said Samuel Deem, DO. “With this advanced technology, we can perform minimally invasive procedures with more accuracy and control than ever before.”

Patients benefit from smaller incisions, less pain, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery times.

The Da Vinci system is used for many minimally invasive surgeries across various specialties, including general, colorectal, gynecologic, urologic, thoracic, cardiac, and head and neck procedures.
