Lung disease can completely change a patient’s quality of life. Our specialists at CAMC are experts in detecting and treating the most advanced lung conditions and respiratory disorders in the region. For patients with severe COPD, shortness of breath during daily activities or emphysema, screening is key to if they are a candidate for CAMC’s Lung Bronchoscopic Volume Reduction Program. The screening is done in our endoscopy suite.
Our team, comprised of specially trained respiratory therapists, certified nurses, technologists and our interventional pulmonologist, Sidra Raoof, MD, are all here to provide the highest quality of care, every step of the way. Dr. Raoof is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Raoof is the only interventional pulmonologist in Charleston and one of just three in West Virginia, specializing in minimally invasive procedures of the airways and lungs. Using state-of-the-art technology, Dr. Raoof provides advanced therapies for her patients with lung diseases such as lung cancer, COPD and emphysema.
Bronchoscopic lung volume reduction is a procedure that involves insertion of one-way valves into most disease affected lobe, thereby allowing air to exit but not re-enter. This leads to volume reduction in the treated portion of the lung, improvement in symptoms and an increase in pulmonary function. Patients breathe easier, walk further and perform more activities of their daily living.
