The Everyday Excellence Heart and Soul award recognizes those who model professionalism, are constantly reliable and consistently provide high quality results and service to customers.
Anetria Stewart is a nurse on the surgical SICU at Memorial Hospital.
Stewart selflessly does things to make patients’ hospital stays better by fulfilling their needs and providing little extras to make them feel special. For example, she bought a variety of brushes, hair ties and detangler to the unit so staff could provide adequate care for patients with long hair. Families have commented about how good their loved ones look thanks to her thoughtfulness.
Stewart also gives gift bags to patients on special occasions and holidays that are filled with stuffed animals, balloons and a card (which everyone signs).
Stewart has a wonderful presence and bedside manner, always taking time to listen to patients’ and families’ concerns and keeping the medical staff updated on patients’ progress. She also takes care of her co-workers by frequently bringing them sweet treats and snacks.
These acts of kindness put smiles on the faces of our patients, family members and the workforce.
