Kristin Schneider is a nurse in the Cardiopulmonary Intensive Care Unit at Memorial Hospital. She recently cared for a 35-year-old man that suffered and unexpected event that took his life.
Schneider provided emotional support to the family while they were processing the fate of their son, brother, fiancé and father. On the patient’s daughter’s birthday, she asked the family to recognize the little girl’s birthday during such a tragic time.
The patient was an organ donor. Scheider helped the family prepare for the honor walk and made sure their wishes were carried through. The fiancé requested to wear her wedding dress during the honor walk. She helped the fiancé and family prepare for the honor walk, which included steaming the fiancé’s wedding dress.
The staff decorated the patient’s room with rose petals and his heart rhythm strips. Several nurses, who were not scheduled during the shift that day, returned to the hospital to show their support and participate in the honor walk for this patient and family.
