Labor/Delivery and Mother/Baby recently had a patient who was considering giving her baby up for adoption because she didn't think she would be able to provide for the baby.
Her Labor/Delivery nurse could sense the patient's hesitation and spent time talking with her and explaining the resources available to her.
The patient’s Mother/Baby nurse also spent time with her and a social worker to set up resources. However, the patient decided to keep her baby.
Once the staff knew this, everyone who helped in her care donated money to purchase a car seat, diapers, wipes, clothes and other supplies so she would have what she needed to care for her baby when she went home.
