CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital recently received ARK (Always Ready for Kids) recognition.
This comes following a site visit in August by the West Virginia Office of Emergency Services. Surveyors toured multiple locations including the emergency department, pediatric ICU, operating room and blood bank.
ARK recognition deals with pediatric preparedness. Surveyors reviewed pediatric policies, inspected supplies for caring for patients of all ages, looked at the services offered, personnel, pediatric medications, micro-sampling availability from laboratory, radiology, quality assurance/performance improvement, special pediatric trays, vascular access for the pediatric population and education for the staff.
All trauma centers will need to have ARK recognition or demonstrate pediatric preparedness for their trauma designation within the next four years.
The hospital also maintains its trauma designation with no deficiencies noted. It has been a level IV trauma center since 2010.
