Our regular diet may be lower in calories, sodium, and fat than what you are accustomed to.  The diet includes fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, dairy and oils. It is used to promote health and reduce the risks of developing major, chronic or nutrition-related disease. 


Dietary guidelines offer a:
• variety of foods including fruits and vegetables
• limited amount of calories from added sugars
• reduction of sodium to less than 2300 mg daily
• focus on poultry and fish
• low fat dairy products
• appropriate food portion sizes

Your doctor has prescribed a cardiac diet for you. This diet is indicated in the prevention and treatment of heart and blood vessel disease. Your meals will be prepared without using excess salt, fat or cholesterol and you will not receive salt packets on your tray. An herb seasoning packet will be provided to add extra flavor to the meals.  Foods listed below will be restricted / limited.

Your doctor has prescribed a diabetic diet for you. This diet is indicated in the treatment of diabetes or high glucose levels. The diabetic diet is designed to help control glucose levels by providing well-balanced meals with a consistent amount of carbohydrates at regular times daily. Items such as unsweetened canned fruits and juices, sugar-free beverages, sugar-free pudding and sugar-free gelatin will be offered. Sugar packets will not be provided on your tray. A sugar substitute is provided.

You will be allowed a specific amount of carbohydrate for each meal according to your diet order.

Foods with carbohydrates include:
• breads, crackers, and cereals
• beans and legumes
• fruits and fruit juices
• milk, soy milk, and yogurt
• pasta, rice, and grains
• starchy vegetables such as potatoes, corn and peas
• sweets, such as cakes, cookies, ice cream, jam and jelly

Your doctor has prescribed an oral surgery liquid diet for you. This diet is indicated for people who have had surgery or an injury involving the mouth.
 

This diet provides foods in liquid form that can be consumed through a straw or syringe. Blenderized liquids should be strained using a small strainer. Straining your foods helps to avoid getting small pieces of food stuck in the wires of your mouth.


You may need to include nutritional supplements such as Carnation Instant Breakfast Drink, Boost, Ensure Boost Plus, Ensure Plus, Diabetisource, Glucerna (for diabetics) or a Generic brand, to get adequate nutrition.

Weekly menu

Your doctor has prescribed a soft/low fiber diet that limits most raw, highly seasoned, and fried foods for you. This diet may be given after surgery to avoid foods that may irritate or cause discomfort to the gastrointestinal tract, such as gas forming foods, acidic foods and spicy foods.

Your doctor has prescribed a mechanical soft or puree diet for you.  This diet is mechanically altered and designed to provide adequate calories, protein and fluids to those who are unable to chew or swallow foods safely. The diet includes modifying the consistency and texture of foods and liquids according to your tolerance.

Pureed
Foods are thick and smooth and have a moist pudding-like consistency.

Mechanical soft – ground
Foods are moist, soft and simple to chew. Meats are ground. Vegetables are cooked to a soft mashable texture. Fruits are softcooked or canned and bananas are included.

Mechanical soft – chopped
Foods are moist, soft, and simple to chew. Meats are ground. Vegetables are cooked to a soft mashable texture. Fruits are softcooked or canned and bananas are included.

Mechanical soft – bite size
Foods are moist, soft, in bite-size pieces and nearly regular in texture. Hard, sticky and crunchy foods are excluded.
