At CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital, our radiology department is designed for children – from our pediatric-specific technology to the child-friend environment. Our advanced equipment enables improved image quality while using the latest low-dose radiation technology possible. Our radiologists are specially trained in pediatrics and provide expert interpretation and diagnosis.
The medical imaging department at CAMC Women and Children's Hospital includes state-of-the-art radiography and fluoroscopy rooms offering digital imaging with multiple capabilities. The computed tomography (CT) department is equipped with a multi-slice CT scanner. The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) department offers a large bore unit that caters to pediatric and claustrophobic patients. Our perinatal center specializes in high-risk obstetrics utilizing advanced 4D imaging for early diagnosis of fetal abnormalities. A highly skilled team of doctors, technologists, registered nurses and assistants work together to ensure the best patient experience.
We also house an ambient CT suite that creates a patient-friendly, non-clinical atmosphere for scanning. The ambient suite is specially designed with curved walls for projecting images and recessed lighting, providing a soothing, movie theatre-like experience without glasses or headphones. The patient chooses the room theme before the scan starts, using a special control pad. This interaction between patient and equipment is designed to make people more relaxed and move their attention away from any anxiety caused by the impending procedure. The suite features both adult and pediatric-friendly themes.
CinemaVision – a convenient, head-mounted 3D virtual reality system – transforms the MRI experience with fully digital video and symphonic quality digital audio for the patient to watch and hear. The system also allows for two-way communication with technologists and reduced MRI noise.
In addition, we are equipped to add the BLADE sequence to our MRI protocols. This new acceleration and motion correction MR technique allows free-breathing abdominal MRI in children, reduces motion artifacts in MR scanning, and can decrease MR scan times and sedation requirements.
