The Everyday Excellence Heart and Soul award recognizes those who model professionalism, are constantly reliable and consistently provide high quality results and service to customers.
According to the person who nominated her, Andi Schirtzinger, APRN, FNP-C for trauma services, regularly goes above and beyond her daily duties and responsibilities to make patients a priority and provide nonjudgmental, compassionate care.
Recently she was caring for a young man who was involved in a car accident that left his brother critically ill with a grave prognosis. As a result of his grief and overwhelming frustration of the situation he threw his iPhone out the window of his room.
While most people would dismiss his anger and the loss of his phone, Schirtzinger took time out of her day to get this young man’s phone from a puddle of water on the roof. The phone still had charge and worked perfectly when she returned it to the patient and helped him deal with his emotions in an understanding way.
This is just one incident of Schirtzinger’s compassion. She has performed various acts of kindness that include taking long term patients outdoors for fresh air, talking for hours with teenagers struggling with their injuries, and even buying a patient a large print Bible so he could maintain his daily devotionals.
