The Everyday Excellence Heart and Soul award recognizes those who model professionalism, are constantly reliable and consistently provide high quality results and service to customers.
Dr. Benjamin Benzing is a third-year pediatric resident.
“He is a great doctor and an amazing human being,” according to the person who nominated him. “He provides great care to all of his patients, and he went above and beyond for a patient who recently was on the pediatric unit for two weeks.”
The patient had been admitted previously to the unit, as well, and she didn’t usually have anyone with her by her bedside.
Benzing took time out of his day to stop by and see her, even when he wasn’t working in that unit. He took her for walks on the unit and outside. He also brought her cards and board games to play when she was confined to the unit.
One day he devoted nearly two hours to making her day a little bit brighter.
“Dr. Benzing always goes the extra mile to make his patients mental well-being a priority as well as their physical health,” according to the nomination.
