The Everyday Excellence Heart and Soul award recognizes those who model professionalism, are constantly reliable and consistently provide high quality results and service to customers.
Deb Walker spent several years as a nurse and now works in coding and data registry.
She was nominated by the neurosciences ICU for her willingness to help during the pandemic.
"Deb called us early in the first surge in September asking how she could help and if she could provide clinical support to NSICU to ensure care to our patients in light of staffing and patient conditions," according to the nomination. "She called our unit when we were experiencing staffing issues due to so many being off and offered to come and help us."
She participated in a few shifts orienting with one of the NSICU nurses and signed up to work shifts when the unit was short during evenings and weekends.
The staff were so appreciative of someone in a leadership role coming to help them, going above and beyond the expectations of her busy role to step back to the bedside to ensure care for patients.
