Ann McBurney, Meghan Workman, Megan Casto, Candace Cowger, Kory Sanders, Torie Geis, Grace Hardin and Brad Lovern and Lindsay Carter (from Health Net) rallied to help get a wife to the bedside of her ill 88-year-old husband whose health was quickly declining.
Until recently, this man took care of his wheelchair-bound wife and impaired daughter at home.
McBurney quickly made calls to figure out how to get his wife to the hospital. Transportation options were slim due to it being a holiday weekend.
The nurses of the medical ICU at General Hospital huddled around the patient with tears in their eyes holding his hands.
HealthNet answered the call. Lovern and Carter went to the patient’s home, helped her get ready and brought her to her husband’s bedside before he passed away. They also stayed with her during her visit to provide comfort and reassurance.
Because of the compassion, dedication and persistence of this team, the patient’s wife was able to be at her husband’s bedside as he took his last breath.
