Janis Via is a nurse with the Wound, Ostomy, Continence department.
She works directly with the Cardiopulmonary ICU (CPICU) to educate staff members about ways to prevent wounds, how to change an ostomy bag and how to manage wounds.
Janis has been working alongside CPICU for several months helping to decrease hospital acquired pressure injuries. She also takes the time to educate all new graduates and staff members on the importance of maintaining skin integrity.
She rounds on every patient, ensuring they are safe and have the best prevention methods available to decrease skin injuries. She even found new beds for CPICU to help prevent pressure injuries.
Via ensured CPICU had a representative educate the unit on the bed and how to safely use it. She comes to the bedside to look at any wound and give recommendations.
