The humanitarian category of Heart and Soul recognizes employees for acts of kindness and charity that promote the wellbeing or improves the life of someone in our community. It also includes actions of bravery, courage and selflessness.
Jessica Young is an LPN on 4 South, CAMC General Hospital.
The person who submitted the nomination said Young went above and beyond her normal scope of duties as a nurse to help two patients who needed warm clothing and winter coats.
After some research, Young found out both patients were Vietnam War veterans.
She contacted the VFW, which provided some warm clothing for the patients, while Young went to the store on her own time to buy some additional items the patients needed.
