The medical ICU at General Hospital had a patient in early May who was experiencing a prolonged stay due to many contributing factors.
The care team included Brock Orsak, Megan Casto, Katie Elkins, Stephen Fernandez and Dr. Khawaja Omar.
The patient’s mother had been the primary caregiver and was at the patient’s bedside around the clock. Dr. Omar graciously bought breakfast for the patient’s mother.
The patient was still on the unit during what would have been her high school graduation day. The temporary charge nurse began looking for available supplies to help this patient celebrate the occasion. The staff created a graduation cap and found a unicorn balloon, and a graduation ceremony was held at the patient’s bedside so she wouldn’t miss this monumental moment.
Congratulations to the other June nominees: Kyle Schrag, Kayla Spriggs and Dr. Sarah Witsberger.
