The Humanitarian category of Heart and Soul recognizes employees for acts of kindness and charity that promote the well-being or improves the life of someone in our community. It also includes actions of bravery, courage and selflessness.
Melissa Scarberry, rad tech, was recognized for helping a co-worker one morning before work. The person who nominated Scarberry said she'd stopped for gas.
"My car would not turn back on. I could not get in touch with my husband. I called Melissa and she came to help because she lived nearby and was on her way to work also," the employee wrote. "I had my two children with me, and it was extremely cold outside. She helped get my car started, followed me to my babysitters, and then followed me to work. She risked being late to make sure that my babies and myself got to where we needed to be safely."
People who work with and know Scarberry say she always goes above and beyond to help anyone in need.
