Rhonda Gall works in the clinical resource department. In the past two months, she received nominations for several actions.
In one incident, Gall gave special care to the young children of a visitor whose health quickly declined. The visitor had cancer and was here from out-of-state to see her family. After many tests and a lot of discussions with the family, they concluded since the patient began declining so quickly, they needed to get her back to her home state so she could be in her own surroundings and be made as comfortable as possible.
The patient’s son was having a difficult time not wanting to leave his mother’s side. He became upset and angry at his family for trying to take him away from her. Gall took him and his sister to the café for treats and a little break, giving them a safe space to vent and allowing them some time not to think about the fact they were losing their mother.
Gall also demonstrated kindness and compassion for another patient’s family. Her patient had been cared for by his 85-year-old mother all his life.The mother stayed at his bedside to help with his care but needed to go home to get a fresh oxygen tank. Gall contacted the mother’s oxygen supplier. Her husband picked up the tanks and brought them to the hospital. Gall set up delivery for the mother to the hospital so that she would not have to leave her son’s bedside.
