Sheletta Thomas is the clinical management coordinator for the Memorial Hospital ED. She also is the sole Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) for CAMC’s Charleston facilities.
In addition to her full-time duties, Thomas provides a 24/7 service for our hospital and community as a SANE nurse. CAMC completed 25% of the SANE kits in West Virginia in 2023, with a good quality rating.
The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner kit is a forensic examination that collects DNA and evidence after the crime and can be used in court. At the time of an exam, Thomas is not only the patient’s nurse performing the exam, which takes hours to complete, but also the patient’s advocate and safe haven.
Thomas goes above and beyond because she cares about this patient population. She is their voice, advocating for them through forensic skills and training.
