Stephanie Kessell and Katherine Bryant are nurses in General Hospital’s emergency department. One night in December, a mother and her infant child were involved in a vehicle accident. During the wreck, the child’s car seat was damaged.
The mother required admission, but the child was able to be discharged to the care of other family members.
Since the car seat was damaged, the family had no way of safely transporting the child home.
That’s when Kessell, one of the ED’s charge nurses, took action. She made several calls to try to get a new car seat with no success. After exhausting all other options, she purchased a car seat herself from a local retailer.
Bryant then picked up the car seat from the retailer, brought it back to the ED and gave it to the family to take the baby home.
Kessell and Bryant both displayed compassion, service excellence and went above and beyond for a family and patient in need.
Congratulations to the other nominees: Tracey Adams, Lauren Buchanan, Chelsea Chapman, Whitney Rose, Kimberly Schaffer and Memorial Hospital maintenance department.
