Steven Sansom, Volunteer Services, has been described as caring and having a big heart. He is very friendly to everyone he encounters, and he is extremely helpful to patients and employees.
Sansom’s patients love him. One patient had no family and was worried about his grass being cut while he was in the hospital, so Sansom went to the patient’s house and mowed his lawn. The patient had surgery and Sansom sat in the room with him and stayed with him before he was discharged to go home. He also gave the patient information on VA support.
Sansom always walks down the hall with a smile on his face ready to help anyone. He passes ice, soda, coffee, kind words and a warm smile to patients regularly.
He goes to rooms just to talk with patients and provide some company for them. Before he leaves for the day, he walks around to patient rooms to tell them he is leaving and asks if they need anything.
When Sansom is not volunteering, people miss and ask about him. He is a shining example of CAMC’s core values of compassion and respect.
Sansom also was selected as the first quarter 2024 Teays Valley Hospital Employee of Excellence.
