Several departments helped a patient reach her goal of being part of her son’s wedding.
The patient in the Gyn Oncology unit at Women and Children’s Hospital was in the hospital in mid-May and her son’s wedding was scheduled for the next day. Her condition was rapidly declining, and it was unlikely that the patient would survive through the night.
Ashley Riggs, Whitney Brame, Kayla Walker, Rachel Ferrell, Ann Musgrave, Greg Bess and Jordan Hager were part of the care team representing several departments. Staff purchased decorations and a local florist donated flowers to create bouquets. Nutrition services provided a cake, cookies and coffee for the family.
They bathed, dressed and fixed the patient’s hair to get her ready for the wedding. Staff took pictures and printed and wrapped a poem the patient had written for her son.
After the newly married couple left the hospital, the patient shared with her care team that she was “ready.” The patient was transferred to hospice the next morning and passed away soon after.
The family shared that they were forever grateful to everyone who made the wedding possible.
