CAMC’s first two police officers, David Setliff and Jason Spurlock

Workplace violence has been on the rise in recent years, especially against health care workers.

CAMC has instituted various security measures to make our facilities safer, including the implementation of Strongline safety badges and establishing its own police department with trained officers who have law enforcement experience.

CAMC’s first two police officers, David Setliff and Jason Spurlock, were sworn in Nov. 6.

“Local law enforcement agencies have supplied great response and support to CAMC in the past and will continue to do so,” said Glenn Crotty Jr, MD, President and CEO Charleston Area Medical Center. “Having our own dedicated police department gives us the ability to respond to immediate needs inside the main hospitals quickly, more efficiently and without the need for outside police intervention in all situations.”

The CAMC Police Force will start with an officer at CAMC General Hospital and eventually expand to other hospitals with the goal of having an officer onsite at each facility at all hours of the day. Additionally, the department has purchased two dedicated police vehicles.
