The staff of 5 West, Memorial Hospital, was recognized for their compassion, patience and loving care they provided to a patient for nearly seven months.
The patient was admitted solely for placement when her family could no longer care for her. She came with many medical challenges.
When she arrived, she only had the clothing she was wearing and her walker. She didn’t have her special orthotic shoes, hearing aids or eyeglasses, and staff had no way of getting them for her.
Over the course of her stay, staff brought in clothing and personal care items for her and spent long periods of time talking with her and playing games.
The patient used a walker to walk the halls, and staff would often walk with her outside to get fresh air.
She was very particular about her snacks and drinks, so staff regularly brought her favorites and tried to meet her needs daily.
